Donations to The Hope Chest for Women
To have monies available to patients who need financial assistance or would like a scholarship to one of our classes (like Spirit of Hope) , The Hope Chest for Women relies heavily on individual contributions. If you

Cancer is a horrible illness with many side effects. Many of you have experienced cancer first hand and intimately know the valleys of this illness. Feelings of fear, frailty, spiritual and personal doubts accompany all the physical effects of having and being treated for cancer.

The Hope physicians and staff see women with cancer from all spectrums of life. Wealth and prestige, or poverty and obscurity do not increase or lessen the risk of being diagnosed with cancer. Everyone is affected. Today’s statistics say approximately one out of every two American men and one out of every three American women will have some type of cancer at some point during their lifetime.1

Finding funds for women without access to adequate health insurance or federal funds is proving more and more difficult. Some with cancer women find that their health insurance does not adequately cover their cancer treatment expenses. This creates a huge financial burden that can oftentimes be overwhelming. Many low-income women do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid funding because they earn slightly above the cut-off rate for eligibility. (The cut off rate for eligibility in NC is 200% of the federal poverty level for a family of 3, which would be an annual income of $28,300, or a monthly income of $2,358.) Other women do not qualify because of their citizenship status. Because of these needs, staff and physicians of HOPE have created The Hope Chest for Women with Cancer. This non-profit 501(c) 3 organization provides limited financial assistance and/or financial counseling for women in western North Carolina with a female cancer, who cannot meet the costs of treatment, and who show a demonstrable need.

Please consider making a contribution to this fund to help low-income, local western North Carolina women cope with the costs of cancer treatment. Checks can be sent to The Hope Chest for Women, P.O. Box 16948, Asheville, NC 28816.
