Short-Term Medical Missions
Medical Missions in the DR
The Hope Chest for Women has made a commitment to partner with local physicians and their families to provide medical services and surgery in underserved communities. Last summer (2003) a group of 26 adults and children went to the Dominican Republic and in one week, performed 62 surgical procedures. Plans are being made for this year’s trip back to the DR.
Spirit of Hope Class
Any woman who has been diagnosed with cancer or has experienced a recurrence during the last year is invited to attend this 8-week support and informational seminar. Using a wide range of professionals and specialists, each class addresses a different and valuable topic with tangible ideas for application. Research shows that by simply changing lifestyle habits a cancer patient can positively benefit her quest for health. These habits include daily exercise, good nutrition, developing a supportive community, stress management, and spiritual growth. Women who are dealing with cancer have an opportunity in this class to build new relationships with other women on a similar journey.
This class is open to all women cancer patients in western North Carolina who, as stated above, have been recently diagnosed or have experienced a recurrence of cancer within the last year. Fee for attending this class is $50, and scholarships are available; call HOPE at 828-670-8403 for information regarding class schedules, scholarships, and other general information. All classes are currently held at HOPE.
Some topics include new ways to address fatigue issues, nutritional factors during cancer treatment, managing stress and learning relaxation, and more.
